Figure 3.7 The 459 districts are labelled for identification. Lines link the cen-
tres of circles connecting districts that are contiguous. The width of the lines is
in proportion to the strength of the contiguity. The vast majority of previously
contiguous districts are still touching each other, even in difficult cases such as
the cluster around Glasgow city (number 156) or Birmingham (number 33).
