DIANA MEMORIAL PLAYGROUND
Kids' London
London is a great place for children and it needn't overly strain the parental
pocket. Buskers and jugglers provide free entertainment at Covent Garden
(see p.130) and the South Bank (see p.214), where a tra c-free riverside
walk stretches from the London Eye to Tower Bridge. And if you don't fancy
the walk, plenty of boats stop off at piers along the way (see p.23). The
spread of children's shows is at its best during school holidays, and at
Christmas there's a glut of traditional British pantomimes, stage shows
based on folk stories or fairy tales, invariably featuring a showbiz star, and
often with an undercurrent of innuendo for the adults. If that's too passive,
there are plenty of indoor play centres where kids can burn off excess
energy. And of course, London Zoo (p.286) and the Aquarium (see p.219)
are sure-fire winners.
