Live music and clubs
Genres, venues, fashions and intoxicants come and go, but London's
nightlife - sprawling, chaotic and impossibly varied - carries on regardless.
Clubs play everything from pop to house, techno to punk and drum'n'bass
to r'n'b on virtually any night of the week. Gigs are equally wide ranging,
encompassing rock, roots, jazz, hip-hop and world music. Dividing these
scenes into categories makes them easier to navigate, but shouldn't
obscure the ever-deepening crossover: club nights take over music venues,
DJ sets are lifted by live percussion, gay venues (see p.405) host mixed
nights and jazz acts play at rock venues. Virtually all venues listed have
events' calendars on their websites - keep your eyes peeled and your
dancing shoes ready.
