bar, run by José Pizarro, one of London's finest Spanish
chefs - his more formal restaurant, Pizarro , nearby at
no.194, is also terrific - is at the heart of Bermondsey's
burgeoning foodie scene. Unfussy but beautifully executed
tapas, on a regularly changing list, cost just £2-7, and the
Spanish wines and sherries come by the reasonably priced

favourite, this unpretentious wine bar, selling natural
wines to drink in or take away, has the feel of a European
market bar, serving simple plates of rustic, creative and
extremely delicious French-influenced food to go with

which sat here long before Bermondsey got trendy, are far
lower than you'd expect. Fresh pasta, risottos, grilled razor
clams, lamb chop with potato and anchovy - all of it is
seasonal, made with the freshest, simplest ingredients,

emphasis at this classy bar is on Spain's wonderful
sherries, with more than forty available by the glass,
along with interesting modern tapas made with the stuff
(£4-12). The same people run another tapas bar, Tendido
Cero , at 174 Old Brompton Rd, and a more formal
restaurant, Cambio de Tercio , at 163, which are also great.

boho café-club once played host to Hendrix, Bob Dylan and
Joni Mitchell. It still runs terrific folk and blues nights, and
dishes up omelettes, steaks and burgers and breakfasts.
