ZETTER TOWNHOUSE
Accommodation
Accommodation in London is expensive. Compared with most European
cities, you pay top dollar in every category from the cheapest hostel to the
swankiest five-star. Add to that the fact that most B&Bs and many hotels are
housed in historic, formerly residential properties - so rooms tend to be
small, bathrooms are tiny and lifts are rare - and it's understandable that
some unprepared visitors come away feeling shortchanged. With a little
savvy, however, you can get some great deals - just don't expect a mansion
for the price of a garret. Remember that rooms with shared facilities may be
larger than en-suites, where showers and loos are often shoehorned into tiny
corners. In some of the newer breed of boutique guesthouses, small needn't
mean inconvenient anyhow - bijou can be great fun when delivered with wit
and style in a buzzy location.
