In-Depth Information
SS-PBAA-PEIs could transport and trigger the release of DNA in the
cytoplasm by bioreducible degradation. Koo et al. synthesized biodegradable
b-PEIS [branched poly(ethylenimine sulfide)] by crosslinking linear PEIs
(Scheme 4.3D). 25 These b-PEIS derivatives showed high transfection efficien-
cies and almost no toxicity. Owing to the biocompatibility of b-PEIS, a greater
amount of DNA could be applied to the cells in order to improve the
transfection efficiency. The disulfide-based b-PEIS was degraded in the cytosol
and finally excreted from the cells during the transfection process.
