Audio Supplied with Source-Video Formats

Betacam
A Sony format for storing studio-quality analog video
and audio.
Betacam SP
Another Sony studio format. Analog audio.
Betamax
A defunct consumer-video format with analog audio.
Digital 8
A consumer digital-video format very similar to DV but that
existed for some time before DV was popularized. Same
audio support as DV.
DV
Audio is delivered along with the video when it is ingested
via Firewire. Accepts 44.1 KHz, 48 KHz, and 32 KHz sample
rates. Often there are analog inputs on the recorders as well.
DVCAM
The professional variant of the DV format. Same audio
support. This is the Sony version.
DVCPro
The professional variant of the DV format. Same audio
support. This is the Panasonic version.
DVCPro HD
A high-definition variant of the DVCPro format. Same audio
support.
HDCAM
Analog or AES digital audio.
Motion JPEG
No particular audio format associated with this codec.
Pixlet
No particular audio format associated with this codec.
S-VHS
An improved version of VHS with analog audio.
U-Matic
An ancient analog format, no longer used. Audio will be
analog as well as the video.
VHS
A domestic format of average to low quality. Analog audio.
