come into play with good effect here (see Figure 31-5). The clouds would compress very
easily, although the seagull flying around in the foreground would pose some more diffi-
cult challenges to the encoder.
Large fires, close-ups of flames, and explosions will cause some significant increase in
the bit-rate requirements because the movement is rapid and large areas are changing
simultaneously (see Figure 31-6). Video of a fire will have some cyclic activity going on in
the picture, much as with a waterfall. Whether the codec can take any advantage of that
depends on whether the group of pictures (GOP) is long enough and whether the codec
buffers sufficient frames.
