Image Processing Reference
offers Linux the opportunity to be on equal terms with the Mac OS and Windows plat-
forms when it comes to video-based tools, servers, and players.
The Output of the Encoder
We need the encoder to generate a bit stream. This is what we transmit when we stream
on the Internet or deliver via a digital TV system. All encoders deliver a similar output
regardless of their internal algorithms. There are some similarities among the MPEG-1,
MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 bit streams and the complexity increases as the later coders are
introduced. The next chapter discuses bit streams and what you need to know about them
as a video-compression practitioner.
