Mobile Phone Formats
Mobile phones compatible with the 3G systems are designed to play back video as a fun-
damental capability. The screens are quite small and are fine for some services, but you
probably would not enjoy watching a feature-length film at this resolution. High-end
phones are based on PDA devices and there is a convergence between these two types of
product. The functionality in both lends itself to being used in a single platform. Address
books as sophisticated as that in the Palm or Pocket PC devices are very appropriate
for use in a phone where the addition of a “dial this person” button provides exactly what
you need.
Figure 6-5 and Table 6-4 describe the relative sizes of some video formats provided
in phones and hybrid-phone PDA devices.
