8. To open the Performance Monitor MMC tool, either choose to Start | Run and type
perfmon and press OK, or Start | Administrative Tools | Performance Monitor.
9. Within the Performance Monitor tool, expand the Data Collector Sets folder, and
right-click on User Defined to choose New | Data Collector Set.
10. Set the new Data Collector Set with an appropriate name and choose the Create
manually (Advanced) radio button, and click Next to continue.
11. On the What type of data do you want to include? screen, select Create data logs
to set Performance Counter and System configuration information options. Click
Next to continue.
12. On the Which performance counters would you like to log? screen, click the
Add button to add all the counters that are specified in the SQL Server PERFMON
Counters poster document.
13. Once the counters are added, click OK and Next to choose the directory to save data
on the Where would you like the data to be saved? screen.
14. On the Create the data collector set screen, enter and choose the appropriate user
login that has local administrator group privilege on the specified SQL Server. Leave
the default selection of the Save and close radio button and click Finish to complete
the data collector.
15. Under the User Defined folder, right-click on the newly created data collector set to
Start the collection of specified counters.
16. By default, the performance counter data will be saved on the %systemdrive%\
PerfLogs\Admin\ folder with the specified name as per step 11.
Let us generate a report detailing the status of local hardware
resources and system response times on the server.
17. Expand the Data Collector Sets folder to choose System node, right-click on System
Diagnostics, and click Start to run the diagnostic process.
