Database Reference
In-Depth Information
When we deploy the Reporting Services it uses two SQL Server
relational databases for internal storage. By default, the databases
are named ReportServer and ReportServerTempdb . Both
these system databases are used to maintain, store, cache and
process Reporting Services processes.
16. By default, the selected services are set up with the default settings. Therefore, you
should be able to access Report Manager by just entering http://localhost/
Reports or http://<computername/VirtualDirectoryName> in the
address bar.
17. Report Server in SharePoint integrated mode and the RS SharePoint add-in work
together to ensure that SharePoint sites can be used as the front-end for viewing and
managing reports. The Report Server functions the back-end for rendering reports
and managing features such as caching and subscriptions.
18. To find the RS add-in, go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads and search
for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services add-in.
19. Besides downloading the MSI file, you will find an overview and instructions on
installation and configure the RS add-in. It is recommended to read them.
20. From the SharePoint administrator's perspective, the RS add-in is the piece of
software that allows customers to extend their SharePoint sites with SSRS reports.
21. The RS add-in needs to be installed on each SharePoint Foundation and SharePoint
Server 2010 that needs to be integrated with SSRS in the SharePoint farm.
22. In addition to the changes in Report Server, the Reporting Services Configuration
tool was updated in SSRS 2008 R2 to allow configuration of Report Server for
SharePoint integrated mode.
For a best practice implementation, it is ideal to install a new
SharePoint Server first. In this way, you can reduce the number
of database engines to manage by reusing the SQL Server 2008
and SQL Server 2008 R2 databases, which were installed with
SSRS 2008 R2 as your storage location for SharePoint.
23. Here are the basic steps to set up WSS 3.0 for reporting integration.
24. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server with Service Pack 2 is available as a free
download setup file called SharePoint.exe from http://www.microsoft.com/
downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=EF93E453-75F1-45DF-8C6F-
4565E8549C2A .
25. Click the Advanced installation type and select Web Front End (WFE). To configure
WFE use the SharePoint Configuration wizard.
26. If you are installing just WFE on a machine, choose the Connect to an Existing
Server Farm option and you are ready. For this recipe, we are configuring a new WFE.
