Database Reference
In-Depth Information
The following are the recommended server configurations for implementing and
demonstrating SSAS scale out:
F Four DUAL-core Intel Processor (2.8 GHz), 32 GB RAM
F Separate SAN Storage for Analysis Services and core database engine services
F 2 GB HBAs connected to fiber-channel
F Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise X64 Edition and SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
X64 Edition
The Analysis Services instance configuration is as follows:
F Analysis Services system files are installed in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft
SQL Server\MSSQL.1\OLAP folder
F Analysis Services data folder pointed to drive on SAN; then those data folders will
have the same structure
F Use the same domain service account for all Analysis Services instances with
administrative privileges
The recommended storage server configurations are as follows:
F Two nodes
F 240 drives—each being a150-GB 10K-RPM (Fiber-channel)
F Four 2 gigabit front-end fiber channel ports and 16-GB data cache
F Virtual Copy and System Reporter
The client machine configuration is as follows:
F Dual-core AMD Opteron 912 processor (2.6 GHz)
F 12GB RAM
F Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise X64 Edition with Service Pack2
F ASCMD command prompt utility
How to do it...
The following process enables you to deploy a scale-out methodology for SQL Server Analysis
Services. The initial step is to configure the SAN snapshots. We will then complete the
following steps:
1.
Stop the Analysis Services on the processing server.
2.
On the Analysis Services processing server wait for 60 seconds to dismount the LUN
on which the Analysis Services data folder resides. It is also ideal to use the hardware
vendor's utilities to accomplish the task.
