In-Depth Information
How it works...
From SQL Server 2008 R2 onwards, the setup program provides the feature to install any or
all of its components. Through the setup, you can install Analysis Services with or without
other SQL Server components on a single server. The connectivity components are installed
that are important for communication between clients and servers that includes the server
network libraries. The Analysis Services runs as a Windows service, and appears in the list of
installed services in SQL Server Configuration Manager and in Services.
The authoring and development tool such as Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS)
is installed to provide an integrated development environment for BI projects. The service
installation and service account starts and runs as a windows service, each instance of
Analysis Services is supported by its own service and each instance can use different settings
for collation and server options. The only authentication mode supported by Analysis Services
is 'Windows Authentication'.
For the collation of designators and sort order settings, Analysis Services is supported by
its own service and each instance can use different settings for collation and other server
options. The Analysis Services use similar collation settings that are designated for SQL
Server Database Engine service, provided both the services are installed under the same
instance name. If required, it is possible to choose different collation settings for each of
these services.
Further to these procedures of installing PowerPivot for SharePoint, the SQL Server setup
program runs the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration program ( PSConfig.
exe ) in the background to create the configuration database and set up PowerPivot features.
SharePoint will be initialized with values that you specify in the SQL Server Installation Wizard.
When you use the New Server installation option, all server products use default values.
