Well polished by the enthusiasm of local volunteers, this museum and collection of nine
historic buildings preserves Sanibel's pioneer past. It gives a piquant taste of settler life,
with a general store, post office, cottage and more.
Activities
Nearly all of Sanibel's main roads are paralleled by paved bike paths; on Captiva, main
roads have bike lanes. Bikes have preference at road crossings, and they scoot by auto
backups and full parking lots at public beaches. So rent a bike and forget your worries.

Billy's rents every type of wheeled contrivance, including joggers, tandems, surreys, scoot-
ers and more. From Monday to Saturday, by reservation, it also offers three daily segway
tours (per person $60) at 9am, 11:30am and 2pm.

Within the Darling refuge, this outfitter rents canoes and kayaks ($25 for two hours) for
easy, self-guided paddles in Tarpon Bay, a perfect place for young paddlers. Guided kayak
trips (adult from $30 to $40, child from $20 to $25) are also excellent, and there's a range
of other trips and deck talks. Reserve ahead or come early, as trips book up.
