In-Depth Information
Navigate the culinary Scylla and Charybdis of Hooters and Bubba Gump. It's no-regrets
holiday fun.
Pass-a-Grille Beach BEACH
( www.pass-a-grillebeach.com ; Gulf Blvd)
The epic sliver of sand that is Pass-a-Grille Beach is the most idyllic barrier-island beach,
backed only by beach houses and a long stretch of metered public parking. Here you can
watch boats coming through Pass-a-Grille Channel, hop aboard the Shell Key Shuttle
( www.shellkeyshuttle.com ; Merry Pier, Pass-a-Grille; adult/child $25/12.50; shuttles 10am, noon &
2pm) to unspoiled Shell Key, and retire for eats and ice cream in the laid-back village cen-
ter.
St Pete Beach BEACH
( www.stpetebeach.org ; Gulf Blvd)
Anchored by the huge, historic Moorish Mediterranean Don CeSar hotel, St Pete Beach is
a long, double-wide strand with parasail booths and chair rentals seemingly every 50ft. It's
crowded with families and spring breakers, who appreciate the big public parking lots, res-
taurants, bars and motels just steps away.
Treasure Island BEACH
(Gulf Blvd)
Even wider than St Pete Beach and more jam-packed with fun-seekers, concessions and
motels. Very built up, with lots of public access, volleyball courts and beachside tiki bars.
Indian Rocks Beach BEACH
( www.indian-rocks-beach.com ; Gulf Blvd)
A series of small lots and one larger lot with restrooms near 17th Ave make the quieter
stretch of Indian Rocks Beach appealing to day-trippers. Located within two blocks of the
main action is the only free 18-berth, public docks (from 7am to 9pm) on the Intracoastal
Waterway.
