Tampa Theatre CINEMA
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 813-274-8981; www.tampatheatre.org ; 711 N Franklin St; tickets $11)
This historic 1926 theater in downtown is a gorgeous venue in which to see an independ-
ent film. The mighty Wurlitzer organ plays before most movies. Too bad showtimes are so
limited: only one evening screening midweek and three on weekends. Look for special
events.
Cinebistro CINEMA
( 813-514-8300; www.cobbcinebistro.com ; 1609 W Swann Ave, Hyde Park Village)
Cross a trendy South Beach nightclub with a plush art-house cinema, and you get this: a
snazzy lobby cocktail bar and upscale munchies (mains from $10 to $20) so you can nosh
at your seat while you watch. It's movie-going with style.
Sports
The NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers play at Raymond James Stadium ( GOOGLE MAP ;
813-350-6500; http://raymondjamesstadium.com ; 4201 N Dale Mabry Hwy) from August (pre-
season) to December, but single-game tickets are hard to come by; most games sell out.
The New York Yankees play spring-training baseball games in March at Steinbrenner
Field ( GOOGLE MAP ; 813-875-7753; www.steinbrennerfield.com ; 1 Steinbrenner Dr) , the
10,000-seat stadium modeled after the 'House that Ruth Built' (ie Yankee Stadium in New
York). The Yankees' class-A minor-league team, the Tampa Yankees, plays at Legends
Field from April to September.
The NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning play hockey at the newly renovated Tampa Bay
Times Forum ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 813-301-6600; www.tampabaytimesforum.com ; 401
Channelside Dr) from October to March. The forum also hosts basketball games, wrestling,
football, concerts and ice shows.
