The red-brick Hampton Inn offers a good level of comfort, a free shuttle downtown and a
tiny pool. Its location on 7th Ave means rooms at the front can be noisy.

Slightly faded, the 1895 Don Vicente recalls Ybor City's glory days. Unfortunately, rooms
are less warmly dramatic than the atmospheric Old World public spaces.
Epicurean Hotel HOTEL

Although part of the Marriott collection, the brand-new Epicurean in South Tampa is a col-
laboration between six businesses. Bern's Steak House chef, Chad Johnson, designed the
menu of the Élevage restaurant and Dean Hurst plans cutting-edge cocktails at the Edge
Social Drinkery rooftop bar. Then there's the Pi patisserie, a fine wine-and-food shop and a
culinary classroom. It's hard to see how you'll find time to enjoy the health club, pool or
full-service spa, although after all that gourmet gorging they'll be in high demand.
Eating
Tampa has an excellent restaurant scene, though precious little is downtown. Ybor City is
jam-packed with restaurants, particularly Spanish and Italian, while the Seminole Heights
neighborhood (along Florida Ave) is an up-and-coming hipster hangout. Other good spots
include gentrified Hyde Park Village, south of downtown, and design-savvy Palma Ceia.
SoHo (South Howard Ave) in South Tampa has been dubbed 'restaurant row'; the stretch
between Kennedy and Bayshore Blvds is prime.
