yourself, Atlantic Beach , with several entrances off Seminole Beach Rd, is sublime.
There's a nice, chilled vibe here: locals are mellower than their Southern Floridian coun-
terparts. Jax Beach fits the Californian comparison more closely than the rest of Florida,
despite the coastlines being on opposite sides!
Sights & Activities
Most of the action is concentrated at Jacksonville Beach, which buzzes all summer (and
most of the mild winter, too).
Jacksonville Beach Pier PIER

Constructed from removable planks, allowing it to be dismantled in the event of a hur-
ricane, the 1300ft pier has a bait shop, concessions and fish-cleaning stations. Bring
drinks, cast your line and wait for a nibble.

The roads are flat and the towns are small: why not rent a bike? In addition to a bunch of
other beach and water-sports equipment, these guys will deliver a 26in beach cruiser to
your hotel for $30 per day.
