JACKSONVILLE ORIENTATION
As big as it is, Jacksonville can be a bit tricky to navigate. A few things to know:
Jacksonville is trisected by a very rough T formed by the St Johns River. Downtown
Jacksonville is on the west side of the St Johns.
I-95 comes in straight from the north to a junction just south of downtown with I-10.
Follow I-10 east into downtown, where a maze of state highways offers access to sur-
rounding areas.
Three bridges cross the river and will take you to San Marco: Fuller Warren (I-10),
Acosta (Hwy 13) and Main St Bridge.
I-295 breaks off from I-95, forming a circle around the city.
Though the city is enormous, most sites of interest to the visitor are concentrated
along the St Johns River's narrowest point: downtown; Five Points, just south of down-
town along the river; and the elegant San Marco Historical District along the southern
shore.
