Not for the faint of heart, guided tours of this museum discuss Colonial-era medical tech-
niques in all their gory glory: amputations, leeching, the whole shebang. Housed in a re-
construction of the original hospital, the museum will make you very glad you're not a pa-

Ripley's Believe It or Not! MUSEUM

Inside the old Castle Warden (1887), this is the first of the now-ubiquitous Ripley's 'Oddit-
oriums.' Shrunken heads, a drum made from skulls and goofy pirate displays are par for
the course here.

A government building has stood on this site since 1598 and served as a residence, court-
house, administrative headquarters and post office. Today, it is maintained by the
University of Florida as a public museum and exhibition space. Until October 2015, it
houses the fascinating First Colony exhibit (adult/child $8/6), exploring the Spanish ori-
gins of present-day USA, beginning in St Augustine in 1565.
Discounted combination tickets including admission to the First Colony exhibit as well
as Colonial Quarter and the Pirate & Treasure Museum are available (adult/child $28/16).
Oldest Wooden School House HISTORIC BUILDING

Built from red cedar and cypress, this 200-year-old building contains animatronic teachers
and students, and provides a glimpse into 18th-century life and education. Naughty kids
may be frightened into civility when they see the dungeon.
