In-Depth Information
European and South American influences: dolmades and osso buco feature alongside tem-
pura yellow beets and Brazilian shrimp-and-coconut stew. Highly recommended.
FREE CHOCOLATE? YES, PLEASE
Get your cacao fix at Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ;
386-252-6531; www.angellandphelps.com ; 154 S Beach St; tours 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm &
4pm Mon-Sat), a downtown Daytona tradition since 1925. Free 20-minute tours of the pro-
duction area include a sweet taste of the goods. While you're here, snag a bag of
chocolate-covered potato chips, chocolate gators or the factory's signature creation, a
caramel, cashew and chocolate confection known as the HoneyBee. It's not high-end
stuff, but only the grouchiest of food snobs will complain.
Drinking & Entertainment
Daytona's entertainment scene skews pretty lowbrow - biker bars with rollicking live mu-
sic (mostly along Main St), high-octane dance clubs (on or near Seabreeze Blvd - aka the
'Beachside Party District'), and some good kitschy retro places.
Oyster Pub PUB
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ;
386-255-6348; www.oysterpub.com ; 555 Seabreeze Blvd;
11:30am-3am)
Eternally happening, this sporty pub has a zillion TVs, tons of outdoor seating and all the
fresh Gulf oysters you can gulp.
Froggy's Saloon BAR
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 386-253-0330; www.froggyssaloon.net ; 800 Main St; 7am-3am)
Outside this train wreck of a bar, a bone chopper gleams in the window. Inside, a sign
asks, 'Ain't drinking fun?' You better believe they mean it: opening at 7am, this is Party
Central for bikers and others who want to go bonkers. Expect to see flashing chicks,
smoky beards, orgasm contests and more leather than on an African safari.
