In-Depth Information
For 10 days in March, 500,000 bikers drool over each other's hogs and party round the
clock. Locals run a 'death pool' predicting the number of casualties.
Spring Break HOLIDAY
Over 100,000 exuberant, hormone-fueled youths from all corners of the US go off at the
beach, in bars, clubs and on the streets. Keg stands galore. Early March.
Coke Zero 400 CAR RACING
NASCAR fans fly the checkered flag at this 400-lap race during the July 4 weekend.
Biketoberfest MOTORCYCLES
Like Bike Week, but in mid-October. More drinking, bikes, burly blokes and busty babes.
It generally begins the weekend following Columbus Day.
SCENIC DRIVE: TOMOKA STATE PARK
The 20-minute drive here from downtown Daytona Beach is almost as pleasant as the
park ( 386-676-4050; www.floridastateparks.org/tomoka ; 2099 N Beach St, Ormond Beach; per
vehicle $5; 8am-sunset) itself, a bird-watchers' heaven of former indigo fields turned
hardwood forests. A canopy of trees overhangs the two-lane road like a green tunnel, let-
ting in only the stray dapple of sunlight.
Sleeping
Accommodations here run the gamut: you can find everything from filthy fleabaggers to
luxury suites - with a range of price tags. Prices soar during events: book well ahead if
you're planning to attend, or juggle your dates if not. The Daytona Beach Area Convention
& Visitors Bureau has the lowdown on all the beds in town. Most accommodations are
located on Atlantic Ave, which is designated as North or South of Main St. As a general
rule, the rowdier part of town centers around Main and heads north. South Atlantic Ave
