While Cocoa Beach pays homage to the gods of commercialism, Melbourne prefers to pay
its dues to those of culture with a thriving community arts, music and theatre scene.
On Friday and Saturday nights, East New Haven Street in downtown Melbourne is
transformed into an urban block party. Meg O'Malley's ( www.megomalleys.com ; 812 E New

gay-friendly Foo Bar (816 E New Haven Ave;
5pm-2am) draws an older crowd with an
Asian-themed menu and cocktails.

The Space Coast's oldest community theater stages early Broadway productions and popu-
lar contemporary pieces in a tiny spot in La Galerie. They're a talented bunch and with
only 90 seats in the auditorium it's an exciting space in which to experience live perform-
ances.
Henegar Center ARTS CENTER, THEATER

Melbourne's one-time high school now houses a community arts center and a 500-seat
proscenium-style theater where the resident Red Carpet Productions stages musicals and
comedies.
