Inside the giant golf ball landmark at the entrance to Disney's Epcot, Spaceship Earth is a
strange, kitschy slow-moving ride through time that is surprisingly cool and enjoys a cult
following.
Ellen's Energy Adventure RIDE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 407-939-5277; www.disneyworld.disney.go.com ; Future World, Epcot;
theme park admission required; 9am-6pm, hours vary; Disney, Disney, Disney)
This 45-minute ride is the oddest attraction in Orlando, perhaps in the entire state of Flor-
ida. It begins with a movie during which Ellen DeGeneres dreams that she is playing Jeo-
pardy! with Jamie Lee Curtis. Determined to outsmart her know-it-all opponent, Ellen
joins Bill Nye the Science Guy on a trip through history to learn about energy sources. At
this point, you board a 96-passenger vehicle and lurch slowly through the darkness into the
Cretaceous period.
Giant dinosaurs stomp about menacingly and, in one particularly surreal display, a man-
nequin Ellen battles a ferocious one. After this jaunt through dinosaur-land, the movie
preaches wind energy, hydro-energy and other alternative fuel sources, and concludes with
Ellen's Jeopardy! victory. The whole thing is just very bizarre.
