TOP TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL DISNEY FAMILY VACATION
Disney expectations run high, and the reality of things can be disappointing. Long waits,
and getting jostled and tugged through crowds and lines, can leave the kids, and you, ex-
hausted. Plan ahead with scrupulous attention to detail. Make dinner reservations, plan
when to go where based on parade and show schedules, decide in advance what attrac-
tions to tackle once you're there, and reserve FastPass+ selections. And then be prepared
to throw all those plans out the window when the kids decide they want to sleep late and
go down the hotel pool's slide again, and again. Plan like a general; travel like a gypsy.
Here are some simple tips:
Buy tickets that cover more days than you think you'll need It's less expensive per
day, and it gives the freedom to break up time at the theme parks with downtime in the
pool or at low-key attractions beyond theme-park gates.
Stay at a Walt Disney World resort hotel While it's tempting to save money by stay-
ing elsewhere, the value of staying at a Walt Disney World resort lies in the convenience
offered. Don't expect the quality of the room and amenities to match the price: you're
paying for Walt Disney World, not for Ritz-like luxury.
Take advantage of My Disney Experience Reserve your 3 FastPass+ attractions up to
60 days in advance (30 days for nonresort guests) - this will give you three guaranteed
short lines each day.
Stock up on snacks Even if it's nothing more than a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut
butter, you'll save the irritation of waiting in line for bad, overpriced food.
Arrive at the park at least 30 minutes before gates open Don't window-shop or
dawdle - just march quickly to the rides, and then kick back for the afternoon. If you can
only manage this on one day of your trip, make it the day you're going to Magic Kingdom.
Watch the opening ceremony and be one of the first into the park.
Speed up, slow down Yes, there's a time to hurry, as 10 minutes of pushing the pedal
to the metal could save two hours waiting in line, but allow days to unfold according to the
ebbs and flows of your children's moods.
Program Disney Dining into your cell phone While you'll want to make some plans
well in advance, once you have a sense of where you'll be at meal time, call 407-939-3463
to make reservations at table-service restaurants at all four theme parks, Disney resort
hotels and at Disney's two shopping districts. Also, check for last-minute cancellations to
dinner shows or character meals. Just keep interrupting the recorded message by press-
ing '0' until you get a real human voice.
