Winter Park
Alfond Inn BOUTIQUE HOTEL
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 407-998-8090; www.thealfondinn.com ; 300 E New England Ave, Winter
Park; r $170-$260; )
Contemporary white-walled elegance, a low-key welcoming vibe and a commitment to the
arts combine to give this Winter Park gem a distinct style. Not only does it house the Alf-
ond Collection of Contemporary Art, but all proceeds from hotel-room prices fund liberal-
arts scholarships at nearby Rollins College. There's a lovely rooftop pool, an excellent res-
taurant with locally sourced ingredients and courtyard tables, and well-appointed rooms.
Park Plaza Hotel BOUTIQUE HOTEL
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 407-647-1072, 800-228-7220; www.parkplazahotel.com ; 307 S Park Ave,
Winter Park; r $180-220, ste $260-320; )
Brick walls, spartan wood furniture, antiques and luscious white cotton bedding create a
distinct arts-and-crafts sensibility at this historic two-story hotel. Rooms lining Park Ave
share a narrow balcony, each with a private entrance and a few wicker chairs hidden from
the street by hanging ferns, and are well worth the extra money.
The hotel does not allow children under five years old (not because they're snobby, but
because of the thin walls).
