In-Depth Information
After visiting Tiffany's windows on Worth Ave, head to Bethesda-by-the Sea to admire its
glorious Tiffany window and grand Gothic architecture. Built in 1926 to replace the first
Protestant church of Palm Beach, it has a long community history and has hosted many a
celebrity wedding, including those of Donald Trump and Michael Jordan. To the side is a
tranquil English-style cloister and the lovely Cluett Memorial Garden .
Activities
Palm Beach Lake Trail WALKING, CYCLING
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; Royal Palm Way, at the Intracoastal Waterway)
The first 'road' in Palm Beach ran along the Intracoastal Waterway, and provided a five-
mile paved path stretching from Worth Ave (in the south) to Indian Rd (in the north) for
Flagler's hotel guests to stretch their legs and scope out the social scene. Nicknamed 'The
Trail of Conspicuous Consumption,' it is sandwiched between two amazing views: Lake
Worth lagoon to the west, and an unending series of mansions to the east.
To get here from Worth Ave, walk west to S Lake Dr and follow the path north to the
Sailfish Club. For an abbreviated version, park in the metered lot off Royal Palm Way (or
in the supermarket's lot on Sunset Ave) and head west to pick up the trail. Another nice
stretch runs along N County Rd. Park on Sunset Ave and head north on the path running to
Palm Beach Country Club. At just under 2 miles, the route is lined with houses and magni-
ficent trees and there are plenty of exotic side streets to explore.
If bike rentals are not available at your hotel, head to Palm Beach Bike Shop . There's a
10 mph speed limit on the trail.
Palm Beach Municipal Beach BEACH
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; Ocean Blvd, btwn Royal Palm Way & Hammon Ave; sunrise-sunset)
This is one of Palm Beach's two beautiful public beaches, both of which are kept pleas-
antly seaweed-free by the town. Metered beachfront parking costs an absurd $5 per hour -
head inland to snag free streetfront parking downtown. This beach can get crowded.
For privacy, head north along S Ocean Blvd and turn left onto Barton Ave. There's free
two-hour parking near the church before S County Rd and public access to the beach
across from Clarke Ave.
