Wood Tavern BAR
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 305-748-2828; 2531 NW 2nd Ave; 5pm-2am Tue-Sun)
So many new bars in Miami want to be casual but cool; Wood is one of the few locales
achieving this Golden Mean of atmosphere and aesthetic. The crowd is local Miami kids
who don't want a dive, but don't want the long lines and attitude of South Beach. Ergo:
Anglo kids joking with Latinos in an outdoor space that includes picnic benches, a wooden
stage complete with bleachers and giant Jenga game, and an attached art gallery with rotat-

friendly - this Wood's got the right grain.
Panther Coffee CAFE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 305-677-3952; 2390 NW 2nd Ave; 7am-9pm Mon-Sat, 8am-9pm Sun)
The coffee is great at Panther, but what's better are frequent poetry readings, performance-
art sessions and general artsy events that fill a packed schedule of events. If there's a non-
alcoholic lynchpin to the Wynwood creative scene, it can be found here.
Gramps BAR
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 786-752-6693; 176 NW 24th St; 6pm-3am Sun-Thu, 5pm-3am Fri & Sat)
Besides being a kick-butt bar that hosts great quiz nights, Gramps has an enormous out-
door backyard that's perfect for alfresco drinking and socializing. It helps that the cocktails
are strong and the beer menu is as extensive as a complete encyclopedia set.
Churchill's BAR
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 305-757-1807; www.churchillspub.com ; 5501 NE 2nd Ave; 10pm-3am)
Churchill's is a Brit-owned pub in the midst of what could be Port-au-Prince. There's a lot
of live music here, mainly punk, indie and more punk. Not insipid modern punk either:
think the Ramones meets the Sex Pistols. While everyone's getting their ya-yas off,
