In-Depth Information
menu and the atmosphere rarely changes, and frankly we think this a good thing: if it ain't
broke…
Greater Miami
Lots of Lox DELI
( GOOGLE MAP ; www.originallotsoflox.com ; 14995 S Dixie Hwy; mains $4-13; 8am-2:30pm)
In a city with no shortage of delis, especially in mid-Miami Beach, who would have
thought some of the best chopped liver on rye could be found in this unassuming place all
the way down in Palmetto Bay? It is bustling, friendly and the excellent lunch meats sneer
at their cousins over on Arthur Godfrey Rd, secure in their dominance of Greater Miami's
deli ranks.
Fritanga Montelimar NICARAGUAN
( GOOGLE MAP ; 305-388-8841; 15722 SW 72nd St; buffet $9-13; 9am-11pm)
A fritanga is a Nicaraguan cafe, and if you've never eaten at one, here's a warning: Nicara-
guans are not scared of big portions. This beloved spot, located deep in Kendall, serves up
grilled pork, chicken stew, meltingly soft beef and other goodies on Styrofoam plates col-
lapsing under the weight of beans and rice. Delicious and cheaper than chips.
Drinking & Nightlife
Too many people assume Miami's nightlife is all about being superattractive, super-rich
and supersnooty. Disavow yourself of this notion, which only describes a small slice of the
scene in South Beach. Miami has an intense variety of bars to pick from that range from
grotty dives to beautiful - but still laid-back - lounges and nightclubs. Not to say you can't
spot celebrities if you want to…
In South Beach and the big Miami superclubs, covers range from $20 to $30 (some-
times higher!), so get your wallet ready.
Gay and lesbian nightlife used to be the province of South Beach, but today the scene is
pretty integrated into straight Miami. Some clubs are still found in South Beach, while
more casual gay bars are in Midcity, North Biscayne Blvd and Northern Miami Beach.
