Northern Miami Beach
Roasters' n Toasters DELI
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 305-531-7691; 525 Arthur Godfrey Rd; mains $8-16; 6:30am-3:30pm)
Given the crowds and the satisfied smiles of customers, Roasters' n Toasters meets the de-
manding standards of Miami Beach's large Jewish demographic, thanks to juicy deli meat,
fresh bread, crispy bagels and warm latkes . Sliders (mini-sandwiches) are served on chal-
lah bread, an innovation that's as charming as it is tasty.
Josh's Deli DELI
( GOOGLE MAP ; 305-397-8494; 9517 Harding Ave; mains $6-14; 8:30am-3:30pm)
Josh's is simplicity itself. Here in the heart of Jewish Miami, it serves Jewish deli meat,
and that deli meat is delicious. Corned beef, pastrami, rye bread, mustard - truly, what
more do we need from life?
Shuckers AMERICAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 305-866-1570; 1819 79th St Causeway; mains $8-19; 11am-late)
With excellent views overlooking the waters from the 79th St Causeway, Shuckers has to
be one of the best-positioned restaurants around. The food is pub grub: burgers, fried fish
and the like. We come here for one reason: the chicken wings. They're basted in several
mouthwatering sauces, deep-fried and grilled again. We could sit here and devour a flock
of poultry if our willpower was low.
Chivitoteca URUGUAYAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ;
305-864-5252; 6987 Collins Ave; mains $5.50-16;
noon-11:30pm Mon-
Thu, to 1am Fri & Sat, to midnight Sun)
Heart, meet the chivito : a Uruguayan sandwich of steak, ham, cheese, fried eggs and may-
onnaise (there may have been lettuce, peppers and tomatoes too, but the other ingredients
just laughed at them). Now run, heart, run away! That's just the basics, by the way, and it
comes with fries. You can also get pizza served by the meter, because honestly, at this
stage you should just let yourself go.
