Gossamer curtains, a lively lounge and a sublimely relaxing violet-and-blue color scheme
combine with orblike lamps that look like bunched-up glass spiderwebs. The rooms are as
affordably stylish as the rest of the offerings in the South Beach Group selection of hotels

Why not name a hotel for a minor, generally ill-regarded British prime minister? Name
choice aside, the Lord Balfour features the usual minimalist-plus-pop-art rooms Miami
beach is famous for, along with Corinelli bed linens and an overarching Cool Britannia
theme. The lobby/bar area is a gem, mixing retro accoutrements with sweeping, modernist
lines.
Hotel Breakwater
HOTEL

A towering blue marquee offset by a stylistically geometric deco facade advertises the
Breakwater to all of Ocean Dr. The breezy pool is a good spot to hang before retiring to
rooms splashed with citrus-tropical colors and splashes of vintage art.

This boutique hotel is all pumpkin-bright; deco dressed up on the outside, with cozy, quiet
rooms that reveal a maritime-meets-vintage theme on the inside, with a dash of Old West
ambience on top. Think mermaid murals on pale stucco walls. Good value for South
Beach.
