In-Depth Information
They lay the retro-punk on thick in the Astor lobby, glamorizing and exaggerating the Age
of Transportation into a hip caricature of itself: a gigantic industrial fan blows over a ceil-
ing studded with psychedelic 'lamp balls,' all suspended over a fanciful daydream of an
old-school pilots' club. The earth-toned rooms are relaxing, and the small pool gets
covered at night to make room for clubgoers who bop on the back-patio lounge.

The Fashionhaus doesn't just sound like a Berlin avant-garde theater; it kinda feels like
one, with its smooth geometric furnishings, 48 individualized rooms decked out in original
artwork - from abstract expressionism to washed out photography - and its general blend-
ing of comfort, technology and design. Popular with Europeans, fashionistas, artists (and
European fashionista artists) and those who just want to emulate that lifestyle.
Nash Hotel BOUTIQUE HOTEL
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 305-674-7800; www.nashsouthbeach.com ; 1120 Collins Ave; r $164-204,
ste from $360; )
This used to be the Lords Hotel, an epicenter of South Beach's gay scene. Today the Nash
is still a pretty cream puff of a hotel, with rooms decked out in lemony yellow and whites
offset by graphic and pop art. At time of writing, it seemed less LGBT-focused than in the
past, if still popular with the boys.
Clinton Hotel BOUTIQUE HOTEL
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 305-938-4040; www.clintonsouthbeach.com ; 825 Washington Ave; r
$150-180, ste from $205; )
Washington Ave is the quietest of the three main drags in SoBe, but the Clinton doesn't
mind. This joint knows it would be the hottest girl in the most crowded party, with her vel-
veteen banquettes and Zen sun porches. Balcony rooms offer a nice view onto the hip
courtyard.
