SOUTH FLORIDA CIRCUS ARTS SCHOOL
Admit it: you always wanted to fly on the trapeze, clamber out of the clown car, tame a li-
on. Well, we can't really help you with those last two activities, but if you want to learn
some circus-worthy acrobatics, contortion and flexibility skills, come to the
South Flor-
ida Circus Arts School
(SFCAS; 954-540-1344;
www.sfcas.com
; 15161 NE 21st Ave) in North
Miami, off North Biscayne Blvd, about 8 miles north of the Design District. SFCAS claims
to be the only institution of its kind offering all-levels accessible education in the skills of
the circus. It's a ton of fun and pretty unique; classes include aerial fitness, trapeze skills
and the extremely popular flying yoga course (just try it), with fees ranging from $15 to
$75 for an hour of instruction. See you in the center ring…
Running
Running is quite popular, and the beach is very good for jogging, as it's flat, wide and
hard-packed (apparently with amazingly hot joggers). A great resource for races, special
events and other locations is the
Miami Runners Club
( 305-255-1500)
.
Some good places for a run include the Flamingo Park track, located east of Alton Rd
between 11th St and 12th St, for serious runners; Promenade in South Beach for its style;
the boardwalk on Mid-Beach for great people-watching and scenery; and South Bayshore
Dr in Coconut Grove for its shady banyan trees.
