The lovely city of Coral Gables, filled with Mediterranean-style buildings, is bordered by
Calle Ocho to the north, Sunset Dr to the south, Ponce de Leon Blvd to the east and Red
Rd to the west. The main campus of the University of Miami is located just south of the
enormous Biltmore Golf Course and the main pedestrian drag is Miracle Mile - heaven for
the shopping obsessed.

Just imagine: it's 1923, tons of rock have been quarried for one of the most beautiful
neighborhoods in Miami, but now an ugly gash sits in the middle of the village. What to
do? How about pump the irregular hole full of water, mosaic and tile up the whole affair,
and make it look like a Roman emperor's aquatic playground? Result: one of the few pools
listed on the National Register of Historic Places, a wonderland of coral rock caves, cas-
cading waterfalls, a palm-fringed island and Venetian-style moorings. Take a swim and
follow in the footsteps (fin-steps?) of stars like Esther Williams and Johnny 'Tarzan'

Biltmore Hotel
HISTORIC BUILDING
In the most opulent neighborhood of one of the showiest cities in the world, the Biltmore
peers down her nose and says, 'hrmph.' It's one of the greatest of the grand hotels of the
