In-Depth Information
One of the few historic structures on an island lined with new condo development, this
rambling clapboard inn has comfy, if creaky rooms and numerous cozy sitting areas filled
with dog-eared books.
Buccaneer Inn MOTEL
( 800-847-2091; www.buccinn.com ; 160 W Gorrie Dr; r from $70; )
Right on the gulf, rooms here are like those of a basic, design-challenged motel - dated
green carpet, painted cinderblock walls. But all are clean, bright and surprisingly spacious,
and some have kitchenettes.
Eating & Drinking
As with accommodations, eating options are surprisingly limited on the island, as many
families cook for themselves. If you're day-tripping here, you may want to pack a picnic.
Blue Parrot Oceanfront Café SEAFOOD
( 850-927-2987; www.blueparrotcafe.net ; 68 W Gorrie Dr; mains $9-26; 11am-9pm)
Out the back of this relaxed and breezy gulf-front cafe-bar, locals sip rum runners and
down oversized po'boys and delicious crab cakes.
Eddy Teach's BAR
( 850-927-5050; www.eddyteachs.com ; 37 E Pine Ave; 11am-11pm)
Though not on the beachfront, Eddy's is the best place in town to down a beer on the
sunny patio, kick back to some live tunes or get a little rowdy. The bar food is pretty
worthy also.
Getting There & Around
From the dock-lined town of Eastpoint on Hwy 98, 7 miles east of Apalachicola, follow
the 4-mile-long causeway onto the island until you reach Gulf Beach Dr, also known as
Front Beach Dr, at the end. Turning left brings you to the state park; a right turn takes you
toward Government Cut, which separates Little St George Island.
If you want to ditch the car, Island Adventures ( 850-927-3655; sgislandadven-
tures.com ; 105 E Gulf Beach Dr) rents bikes for just $10 a day.
