There is an interesting balance - the students
want to know you are there even if you are not
directly participating in the discussion. We think
the students want validation that the opinions
they're expressing are appropriate - so if they
feel that the tutor is in the background and will
correct any major mistakes they seem to be more
open to learn from each other.
In particular, the objective was to assess the
students' ability to engage with the material in a
certain way, rather than to have them reiterate a
series of facts about the material. There is an ac-
ceptance across the whole School that e-learning
is part of teaching now. Some students are happy
to embrace it whilst others are still a bit anxious
and have workload concerns. If a School does
want a wide-scale adoption of e-learning there
does need to be a School based individual who
can coordinate and provide support for students?
I could not correlate between team work and e-
learning in this paragraph).
We think that our graduates should also be
provided with an international platform as a
foundation for their careers. With this in mind,
language skills are essential for engineers who
are operating in the increasingly global environ-
ment. Therefore, it is necessary to speak one
or two foreign languages in order to be able to
compete internationally. It is also necessary to
include international subjects in an institution's
programs of study; to make programs attractive
to international students.
Nevertheless, engineering education institu-
tions still grapple with the fundamental concepts
and ideas related to the internationalization of
their activities and courses. Comprehensive
studies concerning curriculum development and
its methodology are essential in order to ensure
that the main stream of academic activities is not
completely lost in the process of globalization.
Research should be undertaken on a global engi-
neering education curriculum, in order to identify
fundamental issues and concerns in an attempt to
devise and develop a proper methodology, which
would be used in curriculum development in an
era of globalization.
5. tEAcHIng InStrumEntS
It is widely believed that using traditional methods
like writing of teaching material on whiteboard
or blackboards take lots of time and cause tutor
contact diminished to lowest level. Now a days,
fortunately, majority of universities are equipped
with Audio- video learning devices to communi-
cate with students. Using electronic devices like
opaque, overhead and video projectors take the
lowest time for write up of material in the class,
and attract student's attention to completely fo-
cus on matter without wasting time. Also there
is a direct eye contact between tutor and learner
which is necessary to oblige student to be in class
without any absence of mind. It is necessary that
all material would be transferred as hard copy in
advance to student to completely use an interactive
environment and don't coerce to write teaching
material in class. Student goes ahead with tutor
and main part of understanding process is com-
pleted in class.
6. dIScuSSIon
The economic future within Europe and worldwide
increasingly depends on our ability to continue
to provide improved living standards, which in
turn depends on our ability to add value to prod-
ucts and services continuously. To achieve this,
employers increasingly need to look to engineers
throughout their organizations to come forward
with innovative and creative ideas for improving
the way business performs and equally to take
greater responsibility within their work areas
through personal development on a life-long basis.
To compete in the rapidly changing global
markets it has become essential for organizations
to recognize that they can no longer depend on
