49.9.3 Putting the iLMM on the Employee
After the iLMM has been checked to be working properly, it is ready to be placed on an employee. When
handling the iLMM, it should never be bent into extreme angles, as damage to the unit could result. The
following steps will ensure proper placement.
49.9.3.1 Attach Shoulder Harness
The adjustable shoulder harness should fit snugly when worn, so that it does not move during data col-
lection; however, it should enable the individual to breath normally. The slide plate should be centered on
the employee's back between the shoulder blades.
49.9.3.2 Put iLMM on Waist Belt
Before being placed on the employee, the iLMM must first be placed on the waist belt. This is most easily
done by laying the waist belt out on a flat surface. Then the unit can be positioned on the belt's bolts and
secured with the nuts attached to the base of the iLMM.
49.9.3.3 Place Waist Belt
iLMM on Individual
This is done by first positioning the top of the iLMM into the slide plate on the shoulder harness. Then,
the waist belt is to be fit over the employee's hips and momentarily secured with the belt's Velcro w strap.
Next, locate the tops of the hips (the iliac crest) and align the top edge of the waist belt with this ridge.
This will place the base of the iLMM (at the lowest T-section of the unit) at the individual's lumbosacral
joint. Finally, ensure that the iLMM is centered on the back, so that the monitor's T-sections are aligned
with the slide plate on the shoulder harness. If not, one or both of the following adjustments can be made:
/
1. The waist belt can be moved to the left or right
2. The shoulder harness can be loosened and shifted
A properly fitted iLMM is shown in Figure 49.8. Once the iLMM is positioned correctly, securely
tighten the Velcro strap on the waist belt, and secure the leg straps attached to the belt. It is important

the hips, and the iLMM T-sections are aligned vertically.
