HERE FOR THE BEER?
Until recently,
beer
(
cervesa
in Catalan,
cerveza
in Spanish) in Barcelona meant lager, and
only lager, but a growing interest in artisan beers, craft brews and foreign imports means a
wider choice in many bars these days. For the best selection of Catalan and Spanish craft
beers you need to make a special trip out by metro to
2D2D Spuma
(c/de la Manigua 8,
Sant Andreu 661 230 209,
2d2dspuma.com
; Congrés; Mon-Thurs 6pm-midnight,
Fri & Sat 6pm-2am), a beer-bar and associated shop for over two hundred microbrews of
all kinds, from unpasteurized wheat beers to organic ales. It's in a residential neighbour-
hood several stops north of Glòries, but if this seems like taking things too seriously, then
beer-bars
La Cerveteca
in the Barri Gòtic or Sant Pere's
Ale&Hop
are far easier finds,
while there are artisan beers made on the premises in Gràcia at
La Cervesera Artesana
,
Barcelona's original brew-pub. Another top spot is the relatively new - and absolutely
stunning - microbrewery
La Fàbrica Moritz
in Raval. There are also a few pioneering
bars serving a decent handcrafted beer - stand-outs are the Asian tapas joint
Mosquito
in Sant Pere and Poble Sec's beer-and-music bar
Cervecería Jazz
.
The city is also home
to some excellent artisan beer fests, including the
Barcelona Beer Festival
(

)
in March and
La Fira del Poblenou
(
lafiradelpoblenou.com
)
in July.

A stalwart of the
scene, this old-school studenty basement place can get claustrophobic at times. Sounds are
indie, Britpop and US college, while a lively crowd gathers at the square-side bar and
ter-
rassa
which is open from 6pm. Club admission around €10.
Tues-Sun midnight-5am.
