The roof terrace and attic

quarters the enigmatic chimneys - you should note that the roof terrace is often closed if it's
raining. In addition, there's an excellent exhibition about Gaudí's life and work installed un-
der the 270 curved brick arches of the attic .
A NIGHT ON THE TILES
Gaudí fans can get closer to the great man's work at two unique venues - and enjoy a
nightoutintheprocess.At Nitsd'estiu:JazzalaPedrera , Gaudí'samazingceramic-tiled
rooftop at La Pedrera is the evening backdrop for a complimentary glass of cava and live
jazz.Foramealinglamsurroundings, CasaCalvet -Gaudí'searliestcommissionedtown-
housebuilding(1899),erectedforaprominentlocaltextilefamily-isnowafancyrestaur-
ant. Although fairly conventional in style, the Baroque inspiration on display in the sculp-
ted facade andchurch-like lobbywastosurface again inhislater,more elaborate buildings
on Passeig de Gràcia.
The apartment
El Pis (“the apartment”) on the building's fourth floor re-creates the design and style of a
modernista -erabourgeoisapartmentinaseriesofextraordinarilylightroomsthatflowseam-
lessly from one to another. The apartment is filled with period furniture and effects, while
the moulded door and window frames, and even the brass door handles, all follow Gaudí's
sinuous building design.

Casa Milà itself isstill split intoprivate apartments, while thewholebuilding isadministered
by the Fundació Caixa de Catalunya. Through the grand main entrance on Passeig de Gràcia
there'saccesstotheFundació's exhibitionhall whichhoststemporaryartshowsofworksby
major international artists. There's also a full programme of children's and family activities,
concerts and events, with booking details posted on the website.

Right next to La Pedrera, in the same block on Passeig de Gràcia, the Casa Ramon Casas
(1899) was originally built as a house and studio for the wealthy Barcelona artist Ramon Ca-
sas i Carbó (1866-1932). He had found early success in Paris with friends Santiago Rusiñol
and Miquel Utrillo, and the three of them were later involved in Els Quatre Gats tavern,
