To unravel the mysteries of life, the universe and everything you need travel no further than
the Natural Science Museum's bold reboot of its heritage collections, which were previously
displayed in Ciutadella park. The million-strong collection of rocks, fossils, plants and an-
imals - from the smallest microbe to a giant whale skeleton - have a state-of-the-art home
in the visually stunning MuseuBlau (Blue Museum), whose permanent exhibition - Planeta
Vida (Planet Life) - plots a journey through the history of life on earth. It's heavily focused
on evolutionary, whole-earth, Gaia principles, with plenty of entertaining, interactive bells
and whistles to guide you through topics as diverse as sex and reproduction and conservation
of the environment. There are also special exhibitions, a separate hands-on children's section
(the Niu de Ciència, or “science nest”, for under-6s) and regular family activities, plus shop,
restaurant and a free-access media library - the latter the place where you can, for example,
listen to birdsong, animal and habitat sounds stored in the fascinating Natura Sonora sound
library.
