The Grill 213 Union St. One of the city's older pubs, with
a distinctive old-world charm. Sells real ales on tap, dozens
of malts (£2.50 and upwards) and hot stovies. Daily

The Illicit Still Netherkirkgate, Broad Street T 01224
623123. Follow the stairs down past sneering gargoyles to
this subterranean bar with cowhide-covered seats and
intimate little booths, where diners tuck into sharing
platters (£11.95). Daily 11am-late.
Prince of Wales 7 St Nicholas Lane. Opened in 1850, the
quintessential Aberdeen pub has a 20ft-long bar and a
flagstone floor. With fine pub grub, renowned real ales and
a Sunday evening folk session, it's little wonder that it's
often crowded. Mon-Thurs 10am-midnight, Fri & Sat
10am-1am, Sun 11am-12am.
St Machar Bar 97 High St, Old Aberdeen. The medieval
quarter's only pub, a poky, old-fashioned bar attracting an
intriguing mix of King's College students and workers.

an older crowd, Babylon bills itself as one of Aberdeen's
coolest and hippest nightspots. The Gothic-styled interior
here reverberates to the beat of the latest dance tunes. Fri
