This iconic live music venue was the scene of a tragic
helicopter accident in 2013, but the owner has plans to
rebuild and reopen. Noon-midnight.
Corinthian 191 Ingram St; map pp.188-189. A
remarkable renovation of a florid early Victorian Italianate
bank, with three distinct bars and a restaurant: dress smartly
if you're arriving in a large pub-crawling group. Daily 11am
until late.
Horseshoe Bar 17 Drury St T 0141 248 6368,

“Gin Palace” with the longest continuous bar in the UK, this
is among Glasgow's busiest drinking holes; there's karaoke
(if you dare) upstairs. A must for pub aficionados. Mon-Sat

Nice'n'Sleazy 421 Sauchiehall St T 0141 333 0900,

indie rock performance space, the ground-floor bar has the
feel of New York's hip East Village, with the best jukebox in
the city. Mon-Sat noon-3am, Sun 1pm-3am.
Pot Still 154 Hope St T 0141 333 0980, W thepotstill
.co.uk; map pp.188-189 . Whisky galore! At least five
hundred different single malts are found in this traditional
pub, which offers a decent real ale selection as well. Daily
11am-midnight.
Scotia Bar 112 Stockwell St, W scotiabar.net; map
pp.188-189. Billy Connolly began his career here, telling
jokes between singing folk songs; today it's a place for
semi-pro live blues, folk and ski e sessions. Mon-Sat

West Brewing Company Templeton's Carpet Factory,

museum, this place is fashioned after Bavarian beer halls
and brews its own excellent Munich-style lager, free of
additives

bar is geared more towards the art of conversation than
dance, although the jukebox (free) is tops; welcomes men
and women. Daily noon-midnight.
THE WEST END
Big Slope 36a Kelvingrove St T 0141 333 0869; map
pp.184-185. Near Kelvingrove Park and nearby
guesthouses, this is a hip bar where Alpine hunting lodge
meets Manhattan's Lower East Side. Noon-midnight.
Bon Accord 153 North St W bonaccordweb.co.uk; map
pp.184-185. This pub began the real-ale revival in
Glasgow, and often hosts UK beer festivals. It's located at
the eastern edge of the West End, adjacent to the M8.

drinking spot near the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, with a
wood-stoked pizza oven producing some tasty snacks, plus
DJs to keep the pre-clubbing crowd entertained. It's also a
nice daytime haunt, with free wi-fi. Mon-Thurs noon-
midnight, Fri Sat noon-1am, Sun noon-midnight.
Lismore Lounge 206 Dumbarton Rd T 0141 576 0103;
map pp.184-185. Decorated with specially commissioned
stained-glass panels depicting the Highland Clearances,
this bar is a meeting point for the local Gaels, who come
here to chat, relax and listen to impromptu music sessions.

most impressive addition in many years to the Glasgow nightlife
scene, with a big bar, club venue and performance space
auditorium (plus two different dining rooms), all within the
tastefully - and expensively - restored Kelvinside parish church.

itself on pouring the perfect pint of Guinness. Still living
down its history of not having a women's loo: one's been
installed for several years now. Daily 11am-11pm.

Operated by the same company behind the Corinthian
(see above), Tusk is almost as flamboyant, with a giant
golden Buddha as the focal point. It also serves decent
Asian food. Mon-Thurs & Sun 5pm-midnight, Fri &
Sat 5pm-3am.
GAY BARS

liveliest and largest gay bars, in a popular area with a
mixed, hedonistic crowd, and nightly entertainment and

Merchant Pride 20 Candleriggs T 0141 564 1285;
map pp.188-189. Formerly the Candle Bar : relaxed and
unpretentious, if a little dated, with DJs, karaoke and quiz
