GETTING AROUND
Walking is the best way of exploring any one part of the
city. However, as the main sights are scattered - the West
End, for example, is a good thirty-minute walk from the
centre - you'll probably need to use the comprehensive
public transport system, which includes an underground
network . If you're travelling beyond the city centre or the
West End, or to the main sights on the Southside, you may
need to use the bus and train networks; you can pick up
timetables at the Travel Centre on St Enoch's Square .
more than a few days. Both of the main bus companies
offer tickets for all-day travel on their buses, which are
cheaper after 9.30am on weekdays; you can buy these at
one of the one thousand PayPoint outlets in the Greater
Glasgow area.
Roundabout Glasgow For train and underground travel
the Roundabout Glasgow ticket gives unlimited travel for a
day (Mon-Fri after 9am, all day Sat & Sun; £6.30).
Zonecards The simplest of a complicated system of
Zonecards, covering train, underground, buses and ferries,
costs around £18 and gives travel for a week in central
Glasgow, including to Partick in the west and the Burrell
Collection in the south.

The best way to get between the city centre and the West End
is to use the underground (Mon-Sat 6.30am-11pm, Sun
10am-6.30pm), whose stations are marked with a large
orange U. Affectionately known as the “Clockwork Orange”

bright orange), the service is extremely easy to use. There's a
flat fare of £1.40, or you can buy a day ticket for £2.60.
