EYEMOUTH'S FISH FESTIVALS
Eyemouth boasts two annual fishy events: the weekend Seafood Festival on the second
weekend in June, that has cooking demonstrations, sea shanties and storytelling, that has
and the week-long Herring Queen Festival ( W eyemouthherringqueen.org.uk) in July, with
a week of family frolics loosely based around the novelty crowning of a local lass.

Manderston House encapsulates high-class living in late Victorian and Edwardian
Britain. Between 1871 and 1905, the Miller family spent most of their herring and
hemp fortune on turning their Georgian home into a prestigious country house. It's
certainly a staggering sight, from the intricate plasterwork ceilings to the inlaid
marble floor in the hall and the extravagant silver staircase. he whole is
sumptuously furnished with trappings worthy of a man who had just married into
the aristocracy: James Miller married Eveline Curzon, the daughter of Lord
Scarsdale, in 1893. Manderston is currently the home of Lord and Lady Palmer, of
Huntley & Palmers biscuits fame - hence the Biscuit Tin Museum in the house.
he extensive gardens are noted for their courtyard stables (where you can have
tea and scones for £3), cloistered marble dairy, mock tower house, rhododendrons
and azaleas.
