consequently water evaporation. Materials obtained from injection moulding
of the SFOC were fragile and needed to be handled with care (Table 7.6).
Thermomechanical and chemical treatments improve the flow behaviour of
the SFOC (Figure 7.13) and hence, the amount of water necessary for forming
decreases. Moulded materials from the ESTOC are denser and more resistant
than those obtained from SFOC and ESFOC (Table 7.6). In addition, they
could be formed in normal conditions used for the injection of thermoplastic
materials, with the backflow stop valve.
The mechanical characteristics of SFOC-based materials, tensile and flexural
stress at break values, respectively 12.5MPa and 37MPa, are slightly lower than
