Scheme of the transformation of soap from biodiesel production.
production of tall oils 99 and the manufacture of chemicals from glycerine.
Despite these higher-value applications, recovery is not always possible and
disposal via waste treatment plants is also common.
When potential applications are being considered, the required grade and
type of soapstock will have an impact on its uses. Feasible applications will
therefore depend on the source of the co-product and subsequent treatment of
the soapstock. The understanding of the nature of soapstocks and further
purification methods for glycerine 100 and fatty acids will therefore be a key
factor in developing suitable protocols for generating biodiesel glycerin with
commercial value.
