8.2 Stochastic or global models
These determine the transfer function linking the input variable (effective
rainfall, for example) to an output variable (spring discharge, for example).
These black box models do not take into account the actual properties of the
environment. Their value is purely in terms of management, they do not
confi rm any parameters. Compartmentalized models, derivatives of the
MERO model, use successive reservoirs. GARDENIA is a commonly used
model (BRGM).
