In-Depth Information
Type a name to help you remember what the find does. Consider putting the field
you're searching somewhere in the name. You have 100 characters to work with, but a
lengthy name can make the menu unwieldy.
4. Click Save .
Open the Find pop-up menu again, and you see the saved find.
Now you can test the new find by choosing it from the pop-up menu. FileMaker does all the
work: It enters Find mode, enters the search criteria, and then performs the find. You can also
enter Find mode and then, from the Saved Finds pop-up menu, choose a saved find. In that
case, though, FileMaker enters your criteria, but you have to click Perform Find. Using this
method, you can create a find that's slightly different from the saved version—just edit the
request any way you like before clicking Perform Find.
NOTE
Saved Finds are specific to a database, and to a single user account in each file. To see your saved
finds, log in with the account under which you created the finds. Chapter 18 tells you about accounts
and privileges.
Editing Saved Finds
If you have a saved find that needs tweaking—maybe the end of the month report needs to
include a new set of Zip codes from now on, or maybe you just made a mistake when you set
it up—use Edit Saved Finds. You can choose the command from the Find pop-up menu or by
choosing Records→Saved Finds→Edit Saved Finds ( Figure 2-8 ). Either way, you see a dia-
log box that shows you all your saved finds and lets you create a new find without perform-
ing it first. You can also delete or edit finds.
To edit a saved find:
1. From the Saved Finds pop-up menu, choose Edit Saved Finds .
The Edit Saved Finds dialog box appears ( Figure 2-8 ).
2. Click the Target Zip Codes find .
The selected find appears highlighted, and the Edit button becomes active.
3. Click Edit. Or you can double-click the Zip Code find or press Enter .
Whichever method you use, the Specify Options for the Saved Find dialog box ap-
pears. If you're changing the action of the find, it makes sense to change its name. In
