In-Depth Information
Figure 15-21. Switching to Custom chart text lets you format each text area individually. If you're
going to do this, consider reserving serif or otherwise ornate fonts for titles and sticking with sim-
pler lettering for the other blocks.
TIP
By default, the preview chart displayed on the Chart Setup dialog box uses actual data from your
database. Normally this is precisely what you'd want. But if you have a very complicated chart with
a huge data set, chart refreshes can take a long time. In that case you can either click the tiny Pause
button below the sample chart, which prevents FileMaker from trying to update the preview while
you're working. If you prefer to keep the preview updated, you can improve refresh speed by chan-
ging the “Use actual data” pop-up menu to “Use sample data.”
The Chart Style pop-up menu varies by chart type but generally offers solid or shaded color-
ing, and flat or 3-D style presentation. Moving down to the Color Scheme pop-up menu,
you'll find that FileMaker has furnished you with a single color choice plus 20 color
schemes with florid names like Muted Rainbow and Sea Glass. If you don't see a theme you
like, then find one you can settle for, because this is as custom as your colors are going to
get. You can't set colors for individual graph elements, and you can't create your own
themes.
